The Mabuhay Cup is a 3 day event and will be held on July 9,10 and 11
2010,at the Hoop Dome Downsview Park,75 Carl Hall Road,Toronto.

To date, we are expecting 60 teams to join this tournament.This
actually the highest since Mabuhay Cup started in 2004.

This tournament aims to promote leadership,sportsma nship,camaraderi e
and an active and healthy life style among our youths.PIDC believes
that our youths of today are the future leaders of tomorrow.

Now in its 7th year,this tournament has been very successful and youth
has grown over the years.Unfortunately ,the cost of holding this
tournament has also increased. We,at PIDC feel that passing the cost to
the participating teams is counter productive to our objective.

PIDC is a non-profit organization that solely depends on sponsorship
and fund raising to finance its activities.

The Mabuhay Cup Tournament unites all Filipino-Canadian basketball
clubs in the community and encourages them to enjoy a friendly
competition in basketball.It inspires our youths to play their best with
the hope of playing in the Mabuhay Cup.Playing basketball keeps them
fit,busy and occupied which keep them away from drugs,guns,violence and
other troubles which faces most youth groups today.

July 24, 2010 is fast approaching. The following are some of the highlights of the festival  to be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre at the North Building Hall A & B.

· Mabuhay first ever Search for the Most Talented Showcase Artist. The winner had a chance to get a free professional demo DVD from Minerva Studio that will be sent to GMA Talent Centre. The finals will be judge by the star maker Mr. German Moreno.

The Philippine Independence Day Council Toronto invites everyone to the famously fabulous “Salu-salo Sa Earl Bales Park” Community Picnic on Saturday, June 19, 2010, 10am to 8pm. Earl Bales Park is located at Bathurst and Sheppard Ave in North York.

The Picnic forms part of the Big Three of major summer events in TO: The Independence Day Gala, The Picnic and the mother of all summer events, the Marvelously Cool Mabuhay Festival which to some of us, is wicked! As in WOW! The Picnic is the spark that switches FilCans FUN mode into high gear leading to the Festival.

Salu-salo sa Earl Bales is the biggest community gathering in Canada and part of the 112th Anniversary of Philippine Independence Day events around the world. The Picnic this year coincides with the 149th birth anniversary of the Philippines National Hero, Dr Jose Rizal. The Earl Bales Park location is a special place for all Filipinos in Canada because herein lies a statue (bust) of our National Hero. As a matter of fact, this year’s Picnic theme is “Araw ng Mga Bayani”(Heroes Day) to honour our national heroes especially our modern day heroes who showed and continuosly demonstrates to us passionate love for our Philippines: From Efren Penaflorida, The Juana Tejadas and Jocelyn Dulnuans among our Caregivers and those who unselfishly aided our Ondoy typhoon victims.

There will be fun for the whole family. As a matter of fact, The Picnic to our young FilCans is where it`s at: Seen and be seen: Pinay chicks and Pinoy hunks do their prospecting dance! Check it out dudes! And a good venue to do just that is the exhilirating PIDC Cup Volleyball Tournament at the Picnic. Ahhhh! summer does bring us all out of the ho-hum that was of the cold winter. Picnic is summer, summer is Picnic.

Food is abundant. Why do you think it is a Filipino gathering? Its a feast folks. From Appari to Bicol to Sulo, every regional favourite food is present. Visit your neighbouring group and sample(patikim) their original regional mouth-watering recipes: Laing, kilawen, (anybody bringing?) Zubuchon, ginataan, Inihaws. Bring Tums just in case.

Seriously, everything here is of abundance: Food, talents, fun, catching up on old times. There is also an abundance of Filipino style story-telling, “bidahan” rules at the lunch table all the while chomping on the ubiquitous Lechon or Zubochon to Cebuans. Forget the bad LDL . This day we party.

Onstage will be electrifying, non-stop show of our very own home-grown talents. There’s a show for every member of the family: kids, teens, moms and dads, lolos and lolas. And children’s games to keep them busy and enjoy.

Once again, the community is abuzz with excitement and preparation of this year’s Independence Day   The Chair’s of this year’s Salu Salu sa  Earl Bales picnic promise an exciting array of entertainment and games for the entire family.

The theme for this year is ARAW NG MGA BAYANI,  to commemorate the birth day of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.  To celebrate the winning of Efren Penaflorida who was named “CNN Hero of the Year”; to honour the memory of Juana Tejada and the countless men and women who all fought hard over the years to improve the situation of all foreign live-in caregivers in Canada; to thank many unselfish volunteers who helped generously in the recent typhoon Ondoy.  They are all indeed heroes and champions!!

DEADLINE: JUNE 20, 2010 Non-refundable payment of entry fee in full must be made and due on the final meeting to secure team entry.   Participating club assume responsibility to ensure that all of its members and/or participants sign a release and waiver before being allowed to participate in the tournament.

All Teams must submit required forms, including completed, signed Tournament Waiver Form, by June 20, 2010. Word document forms will be e-mailed to Team Leaders.

With the exception of the Tournament Waiver Form, all forms must be submitted electronically by e-mail to mabuhaycup@yahoo.ca by June 20, 2010. Paper form or photocopies will not be accepted.

All teams must comply to the accreditation rules and it is the responsibility of all Team Leaders to communicate all applicable rules and requirements to their players and membership. Players who were not accredited from from the Mabuhay Cup tournamaments are required to show their passport or acceptable pictured documents for eligibilty purposes. All players must be accredited before teir team’s first game.

Mabuhay Cup is a ticketed event. Tickets cost $5 for July 10 and 11 tournament games.

Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Team Reps, Team Muses, Referees and Table Officials must first proceed to accreditation booth to obtain wristband or entry passes. Players must wear their uniforms and show their entry stamp.

STRICLTY No outside food and drinks inside the gym. Food concessions and vending machines are available during the event. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at HoopDome.

All participants and spectators of this event must abide by the rules and regulations posted in the facility or otherwise communicated from time to time, including guidelines relating to safety, conduct and cleanliness.

Please e-mail and submit team pictures and greetings for the souvenir program by June 20, 2010.

Please e-mail and submit name & pictures of candidate for “Miss Mabuhay Cup Sports Model” by June 20, 2010. Word document form will be e-mailed to Team Leaders.

New Rules: (Maximum of 20 points in favor awarded to team to determine team standing)

Section 4.02 TEAM STANDING and TIE BREAKER is determined by (in order)

(a) Win/Loss record
(b) Head to Head In case of the two tied team played each other in the elimination round.
(c) Points Differential (Points in favor CAPPED at 20 points) where rule ‘b’ above doesn’t apply.
(d) Points Against (Team with lesser points against win the tie-breaker)
(e) Coin toss

Local Talents and Cultural Show

Leading the pack with our local talents are Culture Philippines Ontario, Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe, a revival of Tuklas sponsored by Norma Carpio, the Champions lead by Emil Zarris, Santa Cruzan and many many more.

Featured Artists:

Katrina Halili will be at the festival along with other GMA stars to entertain you! An alumna of StarStruck, she was voted  FHM’s sexiest woman of the year in 2006 and 2007. “She is the first StarStruck contestant to top the FHM Philippines’ 100 Sexiest list and the only Filipina celebrity to have won the title twice in a row”.
German Moreno – Affectionately known as “Kuya Germs”, German Moreno has been a staple of the entertainment industry for over 47 years.  He is beloved by Filipinos around the globe for his enduring sense of humour and his undeniable ability to spot talent.  The “Master Showman” will be bringing his legendary persona to Canada along with other young GMA Stars at this year’s festival.

Mark Herras is StarStruck phenom where he honed his dancing talent earning him a nickname of “Bad Boy of the Dance Floor”. His dancing moves earned him more votes than Rainier Castillo winning him the crown at the 1st Ultimate Star Struck Survivor of Season One.

Wendell Ramos started his career when he was cast in “Bubble Gang’. From that beginning, he went into “matinee idol” status and finally into “leading man” roles in GMA shows Sinasamba Kita, La Vendetta and many more.  He also became a model with Bench along with other famous stars.

DANCING TO BE A STAR

Ballroom Competition

GTA’s upcoming “Dancing To Be A Star” 4^th dancing event competition will be buzzing with excitement and highlights Ballroom Latin and Standard Competition at Studio 8 Banquet Hall in Toronto, October 2^nd, 2010. As this is one of the many occurrences and happenings, and the only one of a kind event in the community, it annually impacts the competitors, dancers, exhibitors, judges, sponsors as well as all guests and viewers entertaining them with some terrific ballroom performances. Organizers headed by Leone Manzanares are planning what is possibly the greatest celebration. As promised, and as PIDC endeavors to make this competition bigger and better, what an immense success it has become.

Canadian top ballroom latin and standard competitors will once more sashay their dancing prowess in October for the “Dancing To Be A Star” championship organized by PIDC (Philippines Independence Day Council), lead by Minda Neri (President), is a non profit organization responsible for the promotion and recreational ballroom dancing competition in the Greater Toronto Area, under the chairmanship of Leone Manzanares, PIDC PRO and LIKHA Newsmagazine Society Buzz Columnist.

It will be a spectacular scenario all over again, as the viewers will not only see those glamorous competitors but also showcase professional ballroom exhibitors. According to Leone, the “Dancing To Be A Star” will be an impressive scintillating star-studded dancing event this year. Spectators will see real life dancing stars in action, as “Dancing To Be A Star” Champions will re show their expertise as well as known GTA professional judges and emcees and other community VIPs, celebrities and entertainers.
