It is one of the premier festivals in Toronto and is the largest celebration of Philippines’ heritage, arts and culture in the country. This event has experienced phenomenal growth in attendance since its inception in 1991.
As part of a multi-events celebration held in various venues that begins in April and culminates in July, the Festival has become a summer destination for the Filipino community, various ethnic groups and the Canadian mainstream. This year’s Festival will be held in Metro Toronto Convention Centre, located in the heart of vibrant downtown Toronto – a thriving multicultural mosaic. It is within walking distance to the waterfront, several hotels, shopping stores, restaurants and local attractions. The city’s business, financial, fashion and cultural districts are minutes from its doorsteps and just 20 minutes to the airport. Its location makes it a virtual mecca for out of town tourists.
Trade Show
The venue has over 100,000 sq. ft. of space and accommodates over 200 booths. Exhibitors are invited to showcase their products and services and take advantage of unrivaled opportunities for a focused, personal, one-to-one marketing and interaction with a captive audience.
According to Statistics Canada, more than 250,000 Filipinos reside in Ontario of which more than 150,000 are in the Greater Toronto area. Their buying power equates to more than 3.5 billion annually. Exhibitors invited are individual and corporate businesses, civic and non-profit organizations and professional associations.
Arts and Cultural Display
Visual artists will be invited to display and sell their artworks. Colourful cultural crafts and artifacts representing Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will also be displayed and suitably arranged.
Entertainment
Fiestas and Festivals are the Filipinos’ way of having fun. Aside from a food feast, what is a festival without music and dancing? Most of the traditional dances of the Philippines are deeeply rooted in its culture. Over time, it has been choreographed and stylized to include western influences and entertainment values. It continues to convey in storytelling fashion, with beautiful fluid or dramatic movements and costumes, the story of the everyday lives of Filipinos. Hence, you will see our world famous Singkil, Tinikling, Fandanggo sa Ilaw, Maria Clara, the Ifugao tribal dances from the Mountain Province, to name a few, performed by no less than the premier and world renowned Filipino dance troupes in Toronto. Add to that the Santacruzan, led by the PIDC Pageants winners and participated in by the beauties in the community, this procession of regal beauties represents the religious side of the Filipinos, commemorating St. Helena finding the Holy Cross.
To add to the entertainment are some of our local artists who will give us a taste of contemporary music and dance. And to round it off, we will surprise you with our featured popular guest artists from the Philippines.
Philippine Cuisine
Famous chicken/pork adobo, pancit, lumpia shanghai, spring roll, chicken/pork BBQ, kare-kare, kaldereta, palabok, dinuguan and many more. The offerings are plenty and varied: rice cake, cassava cake, ube jalaya (purple yam), suman, puto, kutsinta, banana turon, halo-halo, a variety of desserts and many more to choose from to tickle your palate.
