The Philippine Independence Day Council (“PIDC”) Pageant Committee comprised of Event Chair, Rory Elefano, Vice-Chairs, Suzy Llanera and Gene Elamparo and Cesar Mañebo, Production and Stage Director, is formally announcing this year’s Pageant launch scheduled on Sunday, February 20, 2011 and searching for candidates and inviting girls to be a part of this prestigious event and have an experience of a lifetime!
“The PIDC beauty pageant is an event organized by volunteers from the Filipino-Canadian Community. Our goal is to foster unity among Filipino-Canadians and to promote better understanding of the Filipino Culture within community and with the Canadian people in general. The event is sponsored by civic-minded businessmen and individuals.
The roles of the Miss Philippines and Little Miss Philippines – PIDC will serve as Ambassadors of Goodwill to all activities within the Filipino and multi-cultural communities that PIDC is involved in. They will promote not only the Filipino culture, but Philippine Tourism, as well. They will serve as a role model to the youth, showcasing the beauty, the talents and virtues of a true Filipina.”
Miss Philippines PIDC – Qualifications:
- Filipino descent or at least 50% Filipino ancestry
- Between 16 and 25 years old
- She must possess beauty of face and figure
- With talent
- Single, never been married
- Of good moral character
- Outstanding personality
Little Miss Philippines PIDC – Qualifications
- Filipino descent or at least 50% Filipino ancestry
- Up to 11 years old
- With talent
The pageant will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011. The winner will wear a crown, sash, receive a trophy, flowers and a round-trip ticket to the Philippines plus a take home of $500.00 cash. ABS-CBN is also offering a studio tour while visiting the Philippines.
Candidates will have an opportunity to participate in all the PIDC’s events such as the Independence Day Ball scheduled on Friday, June 10th at the Le Jardin – Versailles Room, the Miss Sports Model competition held in conjunction with the Mabuhay Cup Invitational basketball tournament at the Hoopdome on Saturday, July 9th, Santacruzan at the Mabuhay Festival on Saturday, July 23rd at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, ‘parada ng mga beauties’ at the annual “Salu-Salo sa Earl Bales Park” community picnic. They will also join other community events and festivals, such as the celebration of Philippine Independence Day at Nathan Phillips Square with the Filipino Centre Toronto (“FCT”) organizers of ‘Pista sa Nayon’. Miss Philippines PIDC, Little Miss Philippines PIDC along with their court together and other pageant winners such as “Miss Manila” will also participate in the Santacruzan and Parade at the Cabbagetown Festival held every September.
