Philippine Independence Day Ball – June 10, 2011
As the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) gets ready with its Annual Independence Ball, ballroom aficionados are on their toes getting set with their dancing shoes.
Event chair Norma Carpio indicated that this year’s Philippine Independence Day Ball will be more dance than the usual long-winding speeches. There may be a speech or two but the rest of the night will truly be a ball — a grand celebration of dance and music.
ABS-CBN, which partners with PIDC in many of this year’s activities, will cover some of the exciting activities transpiring during the Ball which will then be featured on TFC’s Balitang Canada segment within its Balitaang America Program.
PIDC, a broad-based, non-profit, community organization sees its main task the celebration of the Philippines’ Independence in the Greater Toronto Area. It has numerous activities throughout the year that bring together the fourth largest immigrant group in Canada. Minda Neri is the current PIDC president.
Norma Carpio, to recall, was responsible for having the Philippines as the main featured country of the 1998 Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto. That year also marked the Philippines’ centennial. Ms. Carpio was also at the forefront during PIDC’s infancy. She is back this year.
This year’s Ball will also spotlight the community leaders attending and recognize them for their service to the community.
The Ball will be held at the elegant Versailles Ballroom of Le Jardin, located at 8440 Hwy 27 in Woodbridge, Ontario on June 10, the Philippines Independence Day weekend.
The Ball’s theme will revolve around the Philippines’ commemoration of its 113th year of independence from Spain. Cristina Carpio of CTV News Northern Ontario and Rosary Escano of ABS-CBN Canada will act as the Ball’s hosts. A special program for this PIDC event will soon be made available.
